Do you know what and where to look to find previous repairs or damage to the hull structure? |
| 2 | Can you determine if the condition of the structure is satisfactory for the age of the vessel? |
| 3 | Can you inspect machinery and equipment in accordance with recognised marine and Australian Standards and determine if it has been installed and plumbed correctly to allow for safe and efficient operation? |
| 4 | Can you determine if an insurance company would consider the vessel in its present condition as an “acceptable risk” or would they offer insurance cover at all? |
| 5 | Can you determine whether the vessel is suitable for your proposed/intended purpose of use? |
If you can answer yes to all of these questions then save your money, but consider… have you got the knowledge, experience, tolerance and finance to deal with a ship repairer should you buy a defective vessel?
The current rate for a competent, qualified boat builder ranges from $55.00 to $95.00 per hour plus GST, and any repairs to the underwater hull means the vessel will have to be hauled out of the water. The cost to remove a large vessel from the water is approximately $7.50 per foot plus a daily hard stand rate, plus environmental levies, plus wash down charges and more.
If there is a specific item you want us to investigate closely, let us know and we will include this in our report.
We want you to tell us what you don’t want in your next boat like “major repair work” or “electrical rewire” or “machinery failure”. We understand that used boats are not new boats and the level of maintenance required to maintain a vessel may be a determining factor which you should know before you purchase.
